6/21/08  Well, I haven’t touched this page in over a month….I don’t have a lot to pass on to you, but I can fill you in on what I’ve been doing when I leave the trading room for my meetings…

Kevin Cook, an old colleague of mine from my days on the trading floor of the CME), has taken a position with PEAK6 Solutions.  I think every CBOT (oops, CME Group member) is familiar with Peak6 because they took over the entire old bond floor with their operation - and in the process the CBOT closed off a hallway to accommodate them.  We all assumed they were major players – and that’s what they are: a huge trading group – primarily options.  They are now expanding into the retail area, and they brought Kevin in to help facilitate it.  Kevin told me about their Sidewinder Report which is a morning report on options from one of their top traders. www.ONN.tv is a link that Kevin provided me…I found my interview on there (you’ll need to click on “past shows” and create a password; then look under STREET SMARTS, click “past shows” and you’ll see my interview);  that link also has the Sidewinder Report. I think all option traders should check it out.

Bo from Trade The News www.tradethenews.com and I continue to build a relationship.  Those of you who have come to the floor have all been impressed with him – and of course we all benefit from his and Matt’s SP experience.  I first heard about TTN from Anthony; I DO like having the news part of the service….and many of you have told me how you like having the SP squawk on when I leave the floor.  Jessica at (212) 884 8099 is my TTN contact; you’ll also see a link now on my homepage.  Or contact me and I’ll get you in contact with Bo…

I’ve become involved with Alaron’s Commodity Trading School (www.commoditytradingschool.com) on a regular basis.  Paul Brittain slots me in every other Wednesday at 8pm for about an hour….the more I work with traders thru CTS the more impressed I become with Paul.  Paul never discusses his OWN trading, but his clients’ sure do.  His expertise seems to be in options… Paul came thru Chicago on his way to New York recently and stopped by the trading floor to see me.  He wanted to find the desk that executes his trades, so we walked over to Bo and he told us where it was.  The desk guys were VERY eager to meet “the voice on the other end of the phone”; that showed me a lot.  Desk guys only react like that to their BIG customers. I’m also becoming very impressed with Alaron’s clients; I used to think IB’s were the most knowledgeable/had the best chance to succeed in futures – but Alaron clients might be even sharper.

I also was recently introduced to Jim Cagnina, a principal at Infinity Brokerage.  Jim’s an old floor guy – you know my affinity for floor guys – and we’ve had a few discussions about working together.  Adding Infinity to the mix will give you another option (besides Alaron, Lind, and IB) should you need a broker/clearing firm.  Jim assigned 2 of his brokers to work with Marlin; I’ve added them to my “recommended brokers” list below.  I’ll also be doing a live trading event for them in July (see “upcoming events”).

Don’t forget about the trading floor visits for education.  Many of you have come to Chicago and all told me later how great the experience was; how it helped your trading immensely.  I need to remind you of the access you have to the floor as a Marlin client.  Don’t hesitate to call me if you’ll be in the area and want to come down.

Liar’s Poker helped me to mentally knock the institutions off the pedestal I had put them on and realize that I could compete with them.  I only read Rouge Trader because a client sent it to me (and joked it would tell me what NOT to do!). It’s an easy read, and like Liar’s, it shows how screwed up the firms can be….and also how a loser can grow…and grow…and grow.
